A chantar m’er de so qu’ieu non volria - Comtessa Beatriz de Dia (1140 - 1212)
Comtessa Beatriz de Dia was a 12th-centrury noblewoman and a trobairitz (female troubadour) from Occitania (Southern France). Five of her poems survived, but "A chantar m'er de so qu'ieu non volria" being the only one where the music also survived as it is part of Chansonnier du Roi, a manuscript of more than six hundred medieval songs, collected between 1255 and 1260 for Charles of Anjou (1226-1285).
The song is an inversion of traditional gender roles in courtly love. Instead of a male knight lamenting an unrequited love, the Comtessa openly sings about being betrayed by a man she deeply loves.

Today around 30 - 50 poems/texts are known to be written by trobairitz, where probably more texts have been attributed to men although written by women. However, "A chantar m'er" is the only melody known that survived!
